Friday 10/03

Fuzzy picture of the bento boxes (I need a new camera!)

Lunch was meatballs with slices of tomatoes in between, brown rice, potato salad, an olive, and ketchup in the cup. I wish the giraffe pick had a smiley face.

Second tier has cheese bread sticks, grapes and mandarin oranges.

Bryce's has more of the same.

i have a question: is the food you pack for the kids enough? i have an 8 yo girl and a 6 yo boy and they are both EATERS like me . . . and the bentos look so small. it's the only thing stopping me from buying "real" bento boxes. in this case size *DOES* matter.

Angie, my kids are also 6 and 8, and sometimes they cant finish the lunches that I pack them. When you purchase your bento boxes, you want to look at the volume that they hold. 500ml total (top & bottom tier combined) will work for moderate eaters, you might want to go as high as 600ml for big eaters. Sometimes for Bryce, who has a really small appetite, I can go as low at 400-480ml. Anything in the 300's or lower would problably be good as a snack or side dish bento. Laptop Lunches are non-traditional bento-style boxes that hold a pretty decent amout of food. That may work for your kids.
I am also a BIG eater, and generally I can pack enough food into a 600ml box and be full. Make sure you utilize all of the space without leaving any gaps.
