Frankenstein bento

Still going with the Halloween theme.

Today I made Frankensteins out of avocados and carrot jack o lanterns all on a bed of rice.

In the top tier I made grilled steak, breaded chicken nuggets, asparagus wrapped in prociutto, sliced pickles, tomatoes, and a lemon slice for color.

Here are the boxes.

Thanks, Jamie!

I bought lots of different bento books and follow a ton of Japanese websites to find inspiration. When I look at the pictures of my bentos, they all look really amateur compared to some of the amazing ones that are out there. But I'm still a beginner, so its all good:)

Hi KP,

When you use products like avocado, how do you retain the color? Do you squeeze lemon juice on them?

Your lunches are inspiring. You have given me a lot of grea ideas.

Thank you, Marie!

Hi Alice,
Yes, I squeeze lemon juice on the avocados. I also sprinkle salt on them so the kids can eat them as is. When I use certain fruits like apples, I use a mixture of water, lemon juice and a little sprinkle of Splenda so the fruit is not so tart. I just soak the fruit in this mixture as I am slicing them and it seems to work well.
